Melbourne Christmas and...fish
Well, we've come to the end of our time in Melbourne. This afternoon we'll go pick up our campervan, do some grocery (and maybe bathing suit) shopping and pack up to leave early tomorrow morning. Our first stop will be Ballarat, where we'll visit Sovereign Hill, and Upper Canada Village-esque gold mining town. Yay for living history! Here in Melbourne, we've braved 42 degree heat, and gotten into the Australian Christmas spirit. Yesterday we went into the city, where we saw this beautiful big tree:
We also went to the Myers windows. Myers is a big department store that does up Christmas scenes in their display windows for the holidays. This year they had scenes from the children's story book Wombat Divine. In this picture you can see kangaroos as the three wise men, a dingo as a shepherd, a platypus as Joseph, something as Mary, and, best of all, two koalas as the donkey!
Here's a picture from the aquarium. They had little cubbies with bubbles so you could stick your head into the bottom of the tank. So that's why my head is floating under the fish.
Well, that's it for now. I don't know if I'll have any internet access on the road since we'll mostly be in campgrounds unless the heat is unbearable, but I'll definitely update when we get to Sydney around the 21st.

Rachel, I hoped someone from home would recognize the story, as I'm pretty sure I had read it in Canada. Glad you're enjoying the blog :)

do you remember that weird/slightly creepy christmas book with the wombat we had? Called wombat stew. Maybe it wasn't about christmas. One of my main memories about it is mom telling me to pick another book because that one was boring. HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAHAHAHHAHAHAHA

ooh, so you found a campervan then!
Do your sisters by any chance want to come for dinner Christmas Eve? (big, weird mix of 20 people - lots of weird mixes of great food, possibly trivial pursuit)I would call and ask them, but I've lost my voice, bwahahaha. argh.
