Taken in by the Boffins.

Kate got a great movie out of her uni library. It's a Dickens adaptation-Our Mutual Friend. Anyone heard of it? I hadn't before, but Kate brought it home thinking it would be up my alley and she was so right. We started it last night (it's definitely a film to be watched in installments) and I kept on pausing to say "oh, I bet this is going to happen next!" or "oh I bet that man is really so and so" or "that person needs to go fall in love with that other person". Thankfully, Kate took my interruptions very well. There is such a wide cast of characters, from bored aristocrats to people who drag corpses from the Thames for a living. And although sometimes the characters are a bit one dimensional and the dialogue can be a bit hard to follow it is so worth watching, for lines like "I've already got a one legged literate man." I wonder if I shouldn't give Dickens more of a chance.
